The young jeweler is from Uzbekistan in Central Asia. His family is connected to Colombian drug lords. Was he murdered as a message to his family, under indictment by the FBI. Perhaps it is unrelated. Sasha thinks it may have to do with espionage.
Jimmy Sutton, second generation American, is a would-be boxer. Together the two men travel the streets of Brooklyn hunting down bad guys. Sasha has his distractors in the precinct house but he is championed by his superior who respects that Sasha is a man of discretion. He can be trusted with the most sensitive cases.
Sasha comes from a family of distinction. His mother was a Soviet dissident, jailed and tortured by the Russian authorities because she wanted to practice her Judaism in an official world that only recognized atheism.
